A major subdivision of the Air Force, directly subordinate to Headquarters US Air Force. MAJCOM headquarters are management headquarters and thus have the full range of functional staff. MAJCOMs, in turn, may be subdivided according to an organizational scheme. The levels are in descending order and represent levels of assignment. For example, a group may be assigned to any organization listed above it, but a group may not be assigned to another group or to a squadron.
