Chaplain Services

 Encampment Mass

  • Getting started as a chaplain immediately
    • Clergy may work with local unit for 6 months
    • Trial period for clergy in CAP
    • Must receive approval of wing chaplain
    • Must be escorted at all times by a Senior Member
  • How do I become a CAP Chaplain? (See CAP Reg 265-1) 
    • Meet CAP Senior Membership requirements
    • Fingerprint card and background check
    • Pay national and wing dues
    • Have an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a NCMAF Endorser (DOD recognized official)
    • Have Bachelor Degree from institution in Higher Education Directory
    • Complete 3 years of graduate professional study accredited by Association of Theological Schools
    • Clergy without accredited graduate degree may ask for a waiver providing they have a minimum of 5 years full time pastoral experience
    • Contact your wing chaplain for an application (CAP Form 35)
  • How do I become a CAP Moral Leadership Officer? (See CAP Reg 265-1)
    • Meet CAP Senior Membership requirements
    • Fingerprint card and background check
    • Pay national and wing dues
    • Have Associate Degree or minimum of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) attained from a college or university listed in the Higher Education Directory
    • Have recommendation from local pastor or other religious official
    • Be interviewed and recommended by the wing chaplain
    • Contact your wing chaplain for an application (CAP Form 35A)
  • What governs the CAP Chaplain Service Program?

  • Will I work with other faith groups in this program?
    • CAP Reg 265-2, The Covenant and Code of Ethics for CAP Chaplains
    • Chaplains provide for free exercise of religion for all CAP personnel
  • What roles will a CAP Chaplain fill within a Wing/Squadron?
    • Chaplain advises the commander on ethical and moral issues
    • Chaplain provides for religious observances
    • Chaplain provides pastoral care
    • Certified chaplain provides emergency ministry
    • Chaplain coordinate moral leadership for cadets
  • Chaplain Specialty Track Training Requirements
    • Complete CAPP 221, The CAP Chaplain--Specialty Track Study Guide
    • Complete CAPP 221-A, Chaplains Helping Chaplains--
      Specialty Track Study Guide for Master Rating
    • Wing Chaplain administer the test for the above pamphlets
    • Certificate of completion provided when each test is
      successfully completed (CAPC 221 and CAPC 221-A)
  • Moral Leadership Officer Specialty Track Training Requirements
    • Read CAPP 265-4, The CAP Chaplain Service Handbook (Technician Rating)
    • Present 5 Moral Leadership Seminars in accordance with CAPP 265-2,
      Values for Living (Senior Rating)
    • Present a moral leadership training seminar for the Chaplain Service
      Region Staff College (Master Rating)
